Humble Beginning: The Early Journey of Vice Mayor Johair S. Madag
Public service often begins in the quiet resolve of youth, shaped by a desire to uplift community life.
For Johair “Joe” Madag, that resolve was evident from the very start. His humble beginning was not defined
by privilege, but by a steadfast commitment to serve with sincerity and perseverance.
His journey into leadership began as Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson (1996–2001), where he championed
youth participation and civic responsibility. He later continued his service as Barangay Kagawad (2007–2010),
proving that leadership is built on consistency and dedication rather than titles alone.
In 2010, he was elected Punong Barangay, a role he held for more than a decade—unopposed for two
consecutive terms until 2023. His first term was marked by tireless devotion: on duty day and night, he organized
officials and barangay tanods to maintain peace and order. Despite challenges, his discipline and foresight transformed
his area into a secure and manageable community, earning trust and respect.
Even after his long tenure as Punong Barangay, his service continued. In October 2023, he was elected as a
member of the Sangguniang Barangay Council of Barangay Nenita J. Herrera (Poblacion 2), Cotabato City,
reaffirming his enduring commitment to peace, unity, and equitable governance.
From these beginnings, Vice Mayor Madag’s story reflects the essence of humble leadership: a willingness to serve without rest,
a vision for a better Cotabato City, and a legacy built on respect and trust. His journey reminds us that true governance is
not about power, but about stewardship—about building peace, unity, and dignity from the ground up.
From the Kris to the August Body Chamber
“A modern-day Mujahid who wields not the kris of resistance, but the pen of reform.”
In a moment that elevates both mandate and meaning, Sultan Johair S. Madag, fondly known as the Kapitan ng Masa,
stood at the crossroads of legacy and leadership, carrying with him the enduring trust of the Cotabateño people.
On May 12, 2025, he emerged victorious in the Vice Mayoralty Race, ascending to the esteemed role of Vice Mayor of Cotabato City
and assuming his position as the city’s Legislative Chief.
This transition is not simply a change in title—it is a transformation in stature and responsibility.
From the kris of the Mujahideen, symbolizing grassroots conviction and struggle, Vice Mayor Madag now enters the August Body Chamber
as its presiding officer, wielding the pen of reform with institutional authority and moral clarity.
The prestige of the Vice Mayoralty is not defined by ceremonial presence, but by its power to shape and sharpen the legislative soul of the city.
As the city’s legislative chief, and in full alignment with the Executive’s 10-Point Agenda, “Joe” commits 100% support to the administration’s
strategic vision—ensuring that legislative action becomes a force multiplier for executive priorities.
His role as Vice Mayor is not just to preside, but to propel: translating vision into ordinance, and aspiration into institutional legacy.
This is the prestige of the Vice Mayoralty redefined—not as a seat of power, but as a chamber of purpose.
